We accept submissions!

The debate only thrives if you become part of it!

If you are a first-generation philosopher, we invite you to contribute! Whether you're a graduate student, an academic, or someone who has ventured beyond academia after your studies, we'd love to hear from you.

What are your experiences as a first-gen philosopher? What influence has your family background had on your philosophical and academic career? From your point of view, are there specific philosophical reasons for specifically promoting and involving first-time academics — and how can or should this happen?

As a guideline, we recommend that posts be approximately 1000 words and address the following key questions:

  • How would you describe your social background?

  • What were your particular difficulties that had or have to do with your background?

  • What particularly helped you to overcome these or other difficulties?

  • Are there particular insights or perspectives that you owe to your background and that are of particular value for your philosophical research or teaching?

Contributions are subject to review. Please email your submissions to firstgenphilosophers@proton.me, with the subject line ‘Submission for the First-Generation Philosophers Platform’.

We are also happy to publish contributions anonymously (as long as we can verify the identity of the contributor).
